As long as I can remember I have always been working on one craft or another. Over the years I have tried things like paper tole, ceramics, tole painting, knitting and crocheting, needle point, gallery glass, drying flowers and making arrangements , and probably a few more that fell by the wayside over the years.
For the last six or seven years I have made sparkle/glitter Christmas ornaments and beaded hangers for them and they have been well received at craft shows. I have enjoyed making them to this day. I have continued to knit and crochet but in the last five years or so I have discovered BEADS !
I started out selling simple stretch bracelets for kids & adults at craft shows. Some of my other products were/are beaded bookmarks, zipper pulls and key chains as well as some stone pendants for necklaces. I fell in love with the rubber necklaces available at my local bead store Sunstone Beads in Sechelt, BC and started making pendants/necklaces specifically for kids.
Then a couple of years ago I rediscovered something I had done many years ago - Beaded Christmas ornaments.
I started searching the internet for updated patterns & discovered the most beautiful patterns for beaded Christmas ornament covers.
These are netted, beaded covers rather than the 3D ornaments I made previously. At the same time I discovered the new two-hole beads by CzechMates which I like to use in my jewelry.
So now I am a beadaholique !
I have boxes and boxes of beads and of course every time I decide to make a new item, I just don't have quite the right beads for the new creation which means I have to order MORE.
My favourite pastime now is making creations using the bead weaving patterns I have found, most of them are free, but you can find the most fabulous patterns for sale too. A site called Around the Beading Table has awesome jewelry patterns free and for sale.
Most of my patterns for beaded ornament covers are from books I either already had or have purchased recently, and a few patterns from online sites too. Michelle Schobel has some remarkable patterns available for sale.
Now I specialize in exquisite handmade jewelry featuring 'bead weaving', dazzling beaded Christmas ornaments covers, as well as hand decorated 'sparkle' ornaments. Stretch bracelets are still a stock item and I will be adding some knitted/crocheted items to the website too.
My sis-in-law Pat Kilpatrick and I manage to do 4-5 craft shows every year. Our craft show business is called "Knits & Baubles".
Most of our craft shows are based in North Vancouver, and one that is a must every year is the Roberts Creek Craft Show in November - 3 days of craft fun. Roberts Creek is where I live and it is located on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
Pat specializes in quality hand knit/crocheted wearables for adults, kids and babies. Also Kitchen towels and hand-warming rice bags and some cute and cuddly hand-knit toys.
To complement her items, I make knitted dishcloths and matching hand towels for the kitchen, and fingerless gloves for adults & children.
Cheers, Sue
